[Infographic] A Brief History Of Mountain Trail Biking

Pumping adrenaline through the veins of millions of riders around the world, mountain biking has grown exponentially since it’s humble beginnings in Marin County, California.

It all began on Mount Tamalpais, just north of San Francisco, when a group of bikers assembled “Klunkers” from reclaimed paper-boy bikes and started bombing down Tam’s paths.

Sure, people were riding tricky paths and dusty back-roads earlier than these crazy dudes, but they gave it energy and turned it into something new.

In the group were two riders – Charlie Kelly and Joe Breeze – who took it to the next level by building the first ever MTB frame. It wasn’t long after that momentous invention that mountain biking became a global hit for thrill-seekers, and a new wave of adrenaline junkie cyclists was born.
